Lost With Full Signal
A confused man stands in a city park looking at his phone while multiple signs point in contradictory directions. His smartphone knows exactly where he is, but he appears far less confident.
Modern smartphones can track our location within a few feet, calculate traffic patterns, monitor weather conditions, and guide us across entire continents. Yet somehow many of us still manage to stand in the middle of a perfectly mapped location wondering where we are.
This cartoon explores one of technology's great contradictions. GPS satellites, navigation apps, algorithms, and location services know exactly where we're standing. The only missing piece is whether we understand what to do with that information. Digital life keeps getting smarter, while the humans operating it remain committed to improvisation. It's the same kind of confidence that powers smart devices, AI assistants, and modern navigation systems that occasionally leave us questioning our own judgment (see https://www.chadgeepeety.com/cartoons/smart-devices-need-wi-fi-now).
The funny part isn't that the technology works. The funny part is that it works better than we do. Between maps, apps, alerts, and automated directions, we've reached a point where our phones are often more certain than their owners. If that sounds familiar, you may also enjoy https://www.chadgeepeety.com/cartoons/fast-wi-fi-slow-printer.
The GPS has a plan. I’m still brainstorming.
